HOW LONG WILL MICROGREENS LAST?
To ensure your microgreens live up to their three week span, it is recommended to place them on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator, or in the produce drawer. Be sure to keep them away from the cool air vent where the temperatures tend to fluctuate. Following this, your microgreens can last up to three weeks, without losing their quality.
WHAT ARE MICROGREEN SALTS?
Microgreen salts are a blend of our freeze-dried greens mixed with high-quality Maldon Salt. We currently offer one salt blend, Sunny Delight, which is combination of sunflower and pea microgreens. Since they are freeze-dried, they continue to hold a long shelf-life and high-nutritional value.
WHAT ARE FREEZE DRIED MICROGREENS?
We freeze-dry our microgreens immediately after harvesting in order to retain up to 98% of their nutritional value. After they are freeze-dried, they make a great addition to up the nutrients in smoothies and soups.
CAN MICROGREENS BE GROWN OUTSIDE?
In a greenhouse, yes, however, microgreens are delicate and like all young seedlings, they are better protected from the harsh world outside. The heat, sun, and wind can dry them out and their tender leaves are an easy target for pests to munch on. Fortunately, most microgreens do very well indoors as they like room temperatures (70°F to 80°F). If they are not grown under UV Light, the partially filtered light that comes through a window is necessary.
DOES USING ORGANIC MICROGREEN SEEDS MATTER?
While organic certification is far from perfect, it is the most environmentally friendly and least chemically intensive option. When growing microgreens, using organic seeds is very important. When growing “adult” plants, you get a good harvest from just a few seeds. However, growing microgreens requires hundreds of seeds that are very close to the edible stage. Since you are eating the plant so soon after they have sprouted, it’s inevitable that a seed might get mixed up in your harvest. We feel better knowing that when this happens that the seed was produced organically.
